Russia declares official mascots for 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi amid complaints of fraud and vote-rigging

Russia finally revealed its mascots for the 2014 Winter Olympics on Saturday in a controversial announcement that caused charges of plagiarism and claims that Prime Minster Vladimir used strongman tactics to get his favorite among the winners.

The three chosen mascots were a grinning polar bear, a cuddly hare and a snowboarding leopard. These   were selected during a live broadcast on Russia's main television station, Channel One.

The organizers of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics  figured the decision would satisfy almost everyone when they picked three mascots for the games.

Now, it appears that they pleased almost no one.

Final Stage of Sochi Olympic Preparation

The preparations for the Olympics in Sochi, has actually entered its final phase,"  Russian President Dmitry Medvedev mentioned Tuesday on the first working meeting on the legacy of the 2014 Olympics.

The President drew the attention of the participants in the meeting held at Roza Khutor resorts to the fact that slightly more than three years left until the opening of the Olympics. While we have to solve a range of issues, including the issue of snow. Not because any Olympics is a very big project, not because we do not have the easiest conditions here. The project is ambitious - in terms of building volume and fundraising, and organizational complexity, told Medvedev.

Team of Construction Students Taught Olympism

Over 50 students who are currently part of construction teams involved in delivering Russia’s first Winter Games today participated in “The Olympic Induction” workshop in Sochi. The event was arranged by Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee with support from Russian Railways, a General Partner of the 2014 Winter Games.

IOC pleased with Russia’s preparations for 2014 Winter Olympics

One of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) delegation has positively evaluated Russia’s preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in the resort city of Sochi.

Led by Jean-Claude Killy, this is the fourth visit of the IOC Coordination Commission to Sochi as part of routine inspections on how Russia prepares for the Olympics.
