Sochi Plans to Learn One Word Each Day for Olympics
Sochi authorities have decided to step up their preparation for the influx of foreigners for the 2014 Olympics — by teaching its residents one word each day until the games are held.
The project, called Word of the Day, hopes to teach the populace a total of 662 words.
"Starting today, Sochi residents will be given a new word in the English language and its Russian equivalent every day," head of Sochi's education and science department Olga Medvedeva said Monday, Interfax reported.
The English words and phrases will be placed in institutions of culture and health, supermarkets, public transport and on plasma screens, and will be played on the radio as well.
Medvedeva said that a team of Sochi's best teachers of English had compiled the list of words using teaching methods developed over long years of experience.
