The "Aqua-jazz" successfully took place on the 17th and 18th of July during the Cultural Olympiad in the Olympic City. Well-known jazzmen performed music in different genres, like funk, electro jazz, straight ahead, jazz-rock, fusion in front of thousands of viewers on the stage of Green theatre in Riviera Park. The festival opened with “jazz parade” starting from the “Moscow” hotel to the Green Theatre in Riviera park, where the concerts took place.

The real treat for the guests was the performance by Igor Butman, the world-class saxophonist, the winner of State Award of Russian Federation for literature and arts, who performed with such music legends as Ray Charles, George Benson, El Gero. In Sochi he also performed as a producer of the festival.

Famous musicians form US and Russia performed in Sochi: Fusion band CAB, Big band of Igor Butman, the star of smooth-jazz trumpeter Vadim Eilenkrig, funk guitarist Sergei Korenev, power jazz trio of drummers of Oleg Butman, pianist Ivan Farmakovsky, trumpeter Aleksandr Berenson and the best child jazz orchestra in Russia – jazz-orchestra of Kim Nazaretov. The entrance for the citizens and guests was free. “Aqua-jazz” festival will take place in Sochi annually until 2014.

Cultural Olympiad “Sochi 2014” started four years ahead Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. From 2010 until 2014 thousands of various cultural events will take place in Sochi. Each year of the Cultural Olympics will be dedicated to the specific type of arts: 2010 – The Year of Cinema, 2011 – The Year of Theatre, 2012 – The Year of Music, 2013 – The Year of Museums. The final of Culture Olympics, on which the best projects of previous years will be showed, will take place during Winter Games in 2014.
