The Olympic Torch Relay for 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, that will begin in October 7, 2013, sets the record as the longest in the history of games, declared by the president of the organizing committee games Dmitri Tchernychenko on Tuesday.

“The relay will begin in Moscow October 7, 2013, arriving in Sochi, February 7, 2014, it will be the longest relay in Olympic history.” The flame from Athens will travel over 40,000 km, the length of the equator in 123 days, said Tchernychenko.

“In my opinion, it is unlikely that we can break that record,” he added.

The Olympic Olympic Torch Relay will pass through the 83 entities of the Russian Federation and all the inhabitants of the country that wish can become carriers of the flame.

The XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 will be take place in Sochi, the Russian resort city on the banks of the Black Sea, from February 7 to 23, 2014. The XI Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi will be held from 7 to 16 March 2014.
