1980 Summer Olympics Winners will Attend Sports Forum in Moscow

A Moscow deputy mayor said on Friday that celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games will be held as part of the forum Russia Is A Sport Power from July 29 to August 1 at the Luzhniki Sports Center.

“A total of 92 athletes will attend the forum, including the winners of the 1980 Olympics from different countries,” Sergei Baidakov said.

He also mentioned that 17 presidents of sports federations, 81 foreign delegates and over 2,500 delegates from Russian regions confirmed their participation in the forum.

In addition, 320 Moscow students will work as volunteers at the forum and help accommodate the foreign guests at 12 hotels and accompany them at the forum’s events. These students will also work during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Conferences, festive and sports events, including the Russian President’s Sambo Cup and the European Rowing Championship for juniors are on the agenda of the forum.

“The World Streetball Championship will be held in Russia for the first time,” Baidakov said. Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov also spoke about the importance of this event.

According to Luzhkov, “The forum in Moscow is a tribute to Moscow’s sports achievements".
