The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad and General Games Partner Sberbank have presented a unique musical collection of the "Hits of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games". Held on the 14th December 2012, the initiative included ten Olympic theme compositions being performed for the very first time on the radio station Avtoradio. The very same compositions will be played at live sites in Sochi during the staging of the Games in 2014.

The start of the Russian "Hits of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games" competition, one of the main projects of the Cultural Olympiad's Year of Music, was announced in June of 2012.

The contestants' songs submitted from all over the country over the course of four months were presented on Avtoradio's morning show. Through popular voting on the radio station's website, ten composers were selected from over than five hundred entries. The selected songs now appear on the official "Hits of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games" CD.

Among the lucky winners were composers and groups from Moscow, Sochi, Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Ufa and Vologda among other cities of Russia. After professional orchestration, the winners performed their hits together with stars of the Russian stage, including Eurovision stars Dmitry Koldun and Buranovskiye Babushki.

The competition was designed to be open to all, with every citizen of Russia aged 18 years and above having the opportunity to enter.

Through the competition, the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad presented a unique opportunity for each resident of Russia to demonstrate their talent and become a part of an ambitious musical project. The collection "Hits of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games" will be a part of the rich cultural legacy that will remain after the Games.
