Tsochi teachershe Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has announced the start of the Russian national "Olympic Teacher" competition 2010. The competition is being run both by the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee as well as the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Year of the Teacher. The award ceremony will take place in October in Moscow at an event celebrating World Teachers’ Day and honoring the winners of the Russian national Teacher of the Year competition.

The goal of the Olympic Teacher Competition is to attract more active and creative teachers to help develop educational materials which will give students a fuller idea of Olympic and Paralympic values.

Russian teachers, creative groups, representatives of teachers’ associations, educational managers and teaching specialists from all over the country can take part in the competition.

The ‘Education’ section of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee website contains advice for teachers on how to teach lessons on the Olympic Games. "The Values of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement" is the first of four Olympic themed lessons planned for the 2010-2011 academic year. These Olympic themed lessons will give pupils a systematic introduction to key aspects of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, preparations for the Games, features of the Sochi 2014 Games, and their significance.

To enter the competition, entrants need to send their plans of how to enhance Olympic lessons, teaching methods for these lessons and ideas for extra-curricular activities. A committee of experts will be assessing the applications from 20 August 2010. Application forms should be This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and CEO of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee said: "Spreading the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements to the next generation is one of the key tasks of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee."

The competition will help develop leaders in Olympic education, capable of performing the difficult task of getting young people involved in the Olympic Movement. The new generation should represent not only youth, but also commitment to a healthy lifestyle, sport, and the Olympic and Paralympic values of friendship, respect and excellence.
