The first stage of the competition will take place in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ufa and Beloretsk (Chelyabinsk region). The volunteers who successfully pass the screening on the courses will be able to take part in the upcoming test competitions of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee for the 2012-2013 season in Alpine skiing, freestyle and snowboarding. In total, 5,000 sports volunteers will be involved in the Games in Sochi.

In Moscow, 100 sports volunteer candidates will be tested at the "Leonid Tyagachev Ski Club". A qualified jury, made up of competition leaders in Alpine skiing, snowboarding and freestyle and representatives of the Alpine Skiing and Snowboard Federation of Russia and the Freestyle Federation of Russia will evaluate the skills of the candidates. Participants who demonstrate their confident skating skills to the judges will be able to work as volunteers at the Olympic courses at this season's test competitions of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee.

The selection process will also take place in Saint Petersburg, Ufa and Beloretsk (Chelyabinsk region).

Applicants who can demonstrate a high level of physical and sports training, who are confident on skis, ice skates and snowboard should register on vol.sochi2014.com. Successful applicants will be able to become Sochi 2014 sports volunteers. The selection process will be competitive; no more than 5,000 people will be able to become sports volunteers. These candidates in particular have the chance to go down the Olympic courses first and perform at the warm-ups of some of the greatest stars at the European and World Cups and during the Olympic and Paralympic Games themselves.

Candidates who want to become sports volunteers at the Games, must tick the functional area "Sport" as their first choice in the section "Preferred Area of Activity during the Games", and also indicate their athletic abilities in the Olympic and Paralympic types of sports in the corresponding application section. Volunteers will help prepare the Olympic venues for the staging of competitions, be responsible for health and safety regulations in their staging area, help judges report results and prepare protocols, etc.
